    The cycle is very decadal, as could be expected from the El Nino Southern Oscillation influence.  The big take-home is that the droughts of the 1930s, 50s, and 80s were exceeded in duration and magnitude several times in the last 800 years.  For water-planning purposes, it helps to know what the &#039;worst-case scenario&#039; really is - and the Dust Bowl is definitely not it!
